Globalization of Business Affecting Career Paths

It goes without saying that globalization has had a huge impact on business. One area that many people do not think about when considering the effects of globalization is how it has affected the career paths of business professionals. No longer are American-born business professionals guaranteed to go to a US-based college, get a US-based internship, and then work for a US-based company in the US for their entire careers. Today, many American-born students wind up going to international colleges - or at least studying abroad - and then getting jobs with multinational corporations that see them spending inordinate amounts of team, perhaps even years, working in other parts of the world.

But what happens with older individuals? The transition is not that difficult for a young professional without roots or a family; but for an older, more experienced business professional, uprooting and moving overseas isn't always possible. Trouble is, that is where some of the best job opportunities lie.

Likewise, there is a challenge for companies. Because so much of business is conducted internationally, companies like employing US-based professionals; but how do they find the best ones? This gap - between companies seeking professionals with international experience and professionals seeking new opportunities is often filled by a search firm. And one of the burgeoning areas in which search firms are being employed is the growing area of compliance. In fact, compliance search firms have become a tremendous resource for companies that are looking to a) bring in talented new blood to their company; and b) make sure that they have a firm grasp on the latest rules and regulations. Just in the United States over the last few years we have seen the devastating effects that lack of oversight can have. Companies across the globe are looking to mitigate this risk, and there is no better way to do it than by employing competent compliance directors.

The primary function that a compliance search firm provides is that it identifies candidates who would fit best with the company and location. For example, someone who is fluent in Spanish but works in the United States could also flourish with a company based in Mexico. Compliance search firms will have a database of people on call that they can then sift through when a new job order comes in.

The best compliance search companies are able to deliver solid candidates in a short amount of time for any job opportunity. And often, companies find that candidates with diverse backgrounds make the most effective compliance policemen. It makes sense. It is also why this is such a growing focus for businesses the world over.
